Asylum Science is run by Jennifer Wallis and Mike Finn. Jennifer’s PhD  examined how the bodies of  general paralytic (neurosyphilitic) patients were discussed in the asylum, and how the disease was made visible by technologies such as microscopy. She is currently a Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the ERC-funded ‘Diseases of Modern Life’ project at the University of Oxford. Mike’s thesis was concerned with the West Riding Lunatic Asylum under the directorship of James Crichton-Browne (1866-76), and the relationship between psychiatry and neuroscientific thinking; he is currently Lecturer in the History of Science at the University of Leeds.
